A CAMPAIGN TO HELP REBUILD TACLOBAN

Pixel By Pixel

In 2014 Typhoon Haiyan struck and devastated the Phillipines. A small team of us at TBWA Manchester wanted to do something to help so we put our creative brains together to create a campaign to raise money for the appeal. The #PixelbyPixel campaign encouraged people to donate - the more donations made, the more pixels in an image of the disaster would change, transforming not only the picture, but also the lives of millions of people affected by Typhoon Haiyan.

The results

The Pixel by Pixel website featured the campaign video to begin, and then allowed visitors to donate via Just Giving to the Disasters Emergency Committe Typhoon Appeal. Once they had donated, the pixel would be updated to the original image of Tacloban. Donators could tag their pixel(s) with their name, location and a message of hope.

The campaign was a great success and helped to raise a notable sum of money for the Disasters Emergency Committe Typhoon Appeal. We also won two awards for the campaign at The Roses awards 2014, including Best Charity Campaign and Best Charity Advert.
